Never can I recall a more wayward period just before Wrestlemania for WWE. There is simply big matches in the works and we are on the heels of the Royal Rumble 2011! This seems to be a very unpredictable Wrestlemania on the horizon.
Thus I decided to create a top 10 list of what I would like to see at Wrestlemania 27 this year. It’s very doubtful that WWE and the McMahons would do a number of these tasks (these are not predictions) but I did try to remain a bit on the reality side of things.
It’s late where I am and without further ado, here is what I would love to see at Wrestlemania 27:
10. If Undertaker is to wrestle this year at Wrestlemania, do NOT have his streak broken (I am looking at you, Cenanuff and Cripple-H). If the Underseller can beat HBK two years in a row (the greatest of all time) and retire him then NOBODY deserves to kill the streak.
9. Put the mask back on Kane and make him the monster heel that he once was (very selfish on my part). What a huge lost opportunity in Kane. He is likely one of the best character actors in history, a decent worker (yeah I said it), and does whatever the company asks of him. I was thrilled to see him get a second World title run and then they put him in the worst storyline/feud of the year (with a FACE?!? Edge). I cannot think of anybody who has been screwed longer by WWE (well there is Chavo) and stayed for it. What a huge lost potential in Kane! Have him and Underseller finish their feud with Underseller just barely getting by.
8. For the love of God, DO NOT have the Nexus factions fight each other at Wrestlemania. Yes it will be tempting but PLEASE don’t. We saw NWO and Wolfpac and that made me vomit. A huge, 10+ man tag would be a disaster. No, no, no.
7. Put the IC or US title on a returning Christian if he is able to go. This may seem selfish again on my part but Christian, if booked properly, can give credibility to either strap if given a long enough reign and I would love to see a Christian heel turn after the win if it’s not asking too much. Heel Christian > Face Christian.
6. Have the Divas belt contested between Kong and Beth with no disrespect to Nattie. It’s hard to pick one of these gals to be a face but I would lean towards Beth. So, have Kong basically destroy Nattie and go on a rampage on the entire Diva roster minus Beth. Then give me the women’s match that I have wanted to see for years (it’s sad but true) from when both women were dominating their brands. Give them 12 minutes for this one (not a two minute match, please).
5. Have Wade Barrett win the Royal Rumble to face Edge at Wrestlemania. Wade Barrett tops my names of guys to watch in 2011. He was good when he finished NXT and now he is among the greats and belongs in the main event. He is great on the mic, his ring skills are improving, and his future will be big. Give him the Rumble to really put him over and into a Wrestlemania main event to gain some credibility after being Cenanuff’s bitch.
4. Alberto Del Rio wins the MITB match. It would be hard to find a better character to tease champions with a briefcase than Alberto. He would be a hell of a taunter and make for some great promos with the briefcase. He already has the rocket on his back. Finish the job. While you are at it, WWE, put Seth Rollins AKA Tyler Black in the match.
3. Miz enters Wrestlemania as WWE champion. Yes, I wonder if we will still have Miz as champ as he is getting the ‘squeaking by’ victories a la JBL. I really hope that WWE goes with Miz in one of the main events of Wrestlemania. Please, no more Orton and Cenanuff in the world title picture. How many dozens of PPVs in a row have we seen one of those two going for or defending the strap? My chosen opponent(s) for Miz is still to come.
2. Make the ‘big’ match Cenanuff vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin. I have gone on and on about this in another post. If Stone Cold has one more match in him then have the 90s guy fight the 2000s guy as blue-collar anti-authority figure (arguably the biggest star in WWE history) fight the goody, company-manwhore, Cenanuff. These two could have a hell of a program and don’t even need to do a five star match (they couldn’t anyway) to draw money. A second option would be Cenanuff vs. Box Office Flop of the 2000s (The Rock).
1. BRING BACK Jericho for Wrestlemania! Do what you have to Vince. Buy his CDs, beg him, and bring him back. Without HBK, Jericho is easily the WWE MVP and a returning face Jericho (or even tweener) could do a great program with the Miz and really put the Miz over. Yeah, it’s not Cenanuff vs. the Miz (been done enough already) but it is something fresh! Miz is doing great and Jericho will make him look great. This is how I would book the Miz into Wrestlemania. The promos between these two would be gold.
Honorable mention – Turn Morrison heel … yesterday … and have him go against Orton (who doesn’t have a date for the prom) at Wrestlemania. Orton seems lost these days and a program with a heel Morrison (despite the charisma problem) could create great matches and elevate both men.
I doubt that anybody would agree with me on all of these but these are simply ideas. I basically threw up some words onto this post. Sorry if it looks rushed but feedback and other ideas are, as always, welcome!
