East Coast Wrestling Association, Voorhees, New Jersey–As announced this week by Brady Hicks on the IN THE ROOM podcast on thebradyhicks.com and ECWA official Joe Zanolle on 1wrestlingradio.com, newly announced WWE Hall of Fame candidate Tammy “Sunny” Sytch will be the host of this year’s ECWA Super 8 tournament.
For Sytch, the journey to the Super 8 has been a long and winding one. A longtime valet in WWE ECW,WCW, and a number of independent promotions, Sytch went from a virtual unknown in the wrestling world (if not for the work of Pro Wrestling Illustrated) to one of WWE’s most popular performers and–in many people’s eyes–WWE’s ORIGINAL Diva. Now … she can add Hall of Famer to her list of accolades.“For me, the timing couldn’t have been any better,” said an excited Sytch. “With WWE calling me to do the Hall of Fame this year in Atlanta, it’s like a way for me to look back on the past while also taking some special time to honor the future. Some of the guys in [Super 8] are the best and the brightest on the independent circuit. It is going to be a great thing to help out with that show.”
The Super 8 competitors to which Sytch is referring are believed by many to be the best roster of indie talent ever booked for the tourney. It includes Tommaso Ciampa, Sami Calliahan, Adam Cole, Shockwave The Robot, Rich Swann, Bobby Shields, Shiima Xion, and Austin Aries.
This year’s tournament will take place at the Flyers’ Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ, a move ECWA owner Mike Tartaglia hopes will make it more accessible to ADDITIONAL ECWA fans in New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, while still being being close to Delaware. Either way, it will make the 2011 Super 8 tournament more centrally located than ever before. For more information on Super 8, keep checking back at ecwaprowrestling.com and thebradyhicks.com.
