02.20.12 – WHAT VINCE HATH WROUGHT

Here it is, friends – the latest edition of BOWLING SHOE HANDSOME. This is the one podcast where you’ll get your required weekly doses of wrestling, pop culture, and punk rock. This week…

WRESTLING

Discussion of the creative (and biological) products of two notorious Vince’s. Hear about Vince Russo’s successes as a creative force during WWE’s “Attitude Era,” as well as his visionary concept for a “Judy Bagwell on a Pole” match. Then, learn how Shane McMahon has transcended the family business – and death defying physical stunts – to become an international business mogul. Plus, what does the future hold for both of these men?

POP CULTURE

The Grammy Awards show and its aftermath are discussed. Among the topics are Dave Grohl’s acceptance speech, Adele’s throat surgery, and the Chris Brown debacle. (SPOILER ALERT: We aren’t too thrilled about Chris Brown.)

PUNK ROCK

Great tracks this week from hardcore bands, Total Defeat and Drug Church. Plus, dig into the delightful pop punk of Third Year Freshman, Hold Tight, and Shang-a-Lang. Thanks to these artists for creating and sharing their great songs with us, and special props to Dirt Cult Records and Messy Life Records.

02.13.12 – Cool Your Heels

What ever happened to the classic bad guy? You know, the kind who honestly didn’t want the crowd in his corner? This week on Bowling Shoe Handsome, the ever-changing role of the pro wrestling villain is examined. Wrestlers discussed include legends like Ric Flair and Ted DiBiase, along with Edge, Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton, and others. Then, Chris Jericho of 2012 faces Chris Jericho of 2002 in a fantasy “heel-off.” Finally, we’ve got Grammys talk and why Storage Wars star, Dave “Yuuuup” Hester, would be a great asset to the world of pro wrestling.

Music this week is care of Jonesin’, Jack’s Smirking Revenge, and Philadelphia’s own Dear Althea. Awesome!

02.06.12 – Dueling Reactions

Join hosts Kevin and Young John for a very “divisive” edition of the web’s only Punk Rock ‘n Wrestling podcast. This week’s topic is wrestlers who have figuratively split audiences in two. First, hear the guys talk about Hulk Hogan’s place as both the top heel AND top babyface in TNA – and why this could be helpful to the Impact product. Then, the discussion turns again to internet darling, Daniel Bryan. Find out why a seemingly innocuous line uttered by Michael Cole might signal a brighter future for the former “American Dragon.” A can’t-miss feud with John Cena might not be so far off!

Musically speaking, you’ll dig into tracks from Go to the Police, the long out-of-print (and only) recording from U.K. power pop act, The Toys. PLUS: music from Mat Minutiae’s Mike Bessler and BSH’s own Kevin McElvaney. Yes, you read that right!

01.23.12 – Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & WWE

This week, Kevin and Young John invite the renowned Mike Bessler to the internet’s favorite Punk Rock ‘N Wrestling podcast. The guys discuss a host of topics, with the focal question being “Should WWE split its programming into seasons?” It’s a debate that’s been stewing in various circles over the years, and BSH will attempt to solve the issue once and for all. Plus, Mike, John, and Kevin talk about the future of Mat Minutiae, THE Brady Hicks, and the 100th episode anniversary of NXT. All this, along with music from Red Tape Parade, Hold Tight, Jack’s Smirking Revenge, and Red & Orange. Check it out!

1.16.12 – Superstars ‘N Sabotage

This week on the web’s 147th most popular “Bowling Show” titled podcast, Kevin and Young John explore the bizarre twists, turns, and hazing rituals that have permeated WWE’s recent programming, while spinning some choice tunes from punk rock imprint, Dirt Cult Records. What do WWE’s rising stars have in common with Conan O’Brien? Hear the guys’ thoughts on “The Funkasaurus” Brodus Clay, “The Wussasaurus” Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho’s emo record collection, and the wild night life of Philadelphia weatherman, John Bolaris. 12.19.11 – Attitude, The One You Got

This is it, folks: the web’s 147th most popular podcast with “Bowling Shoe” in the title, and the number one “Bowling Shoe” monikered podcast ON THIS ENTIRE NETWORK!

Join hosts, Kevin and Young John, as they discuss whether WWE can ever go home again. And, even if it can, does the company really want to revive the “Attitude Era?” Dave Batista’s recent controversial comments about John Cena are closely examined, along with WWE’s gradual transition from “shock TV” to a more family friendly product. What happened to the “ass-kickin’” good guys in pro wrestling? And just how does Kane’s masked return to RAW relate to all of this? Kevin and John’ll tell you!

PLUS: brand new songs from hardcore bands Total Defeat and Midstress, along with music from Red Tape Parade and Shinsplints.

Top Three Stories

3. The Barber Suing Hulk’s Ex Wife
Ed Leslie told TMZ he was planning on suing Linda Bollea over her remarks, saying that a little birdie told her that he and Hulk Hogan had a gay relationship. He said the papers are being drafted and will be filed shortly.  Leslie noted that he’s known Linda for almost 40 years (actually less than 30…).
NewsWire Flash-Commentary:
The remarks DID seem a little out there, and harsh if nothing else.

2. Asylum (ECW) Arena in South Philly to Close its Doors After All
The rumors turned out to be true. There is a change of management at the Asylum Arena. As of right now, the final wrestling events booked will be double-header on January 14th with EVOVLE and CZW.  Truly the end of an era.
NewsWire Flash-Commentary:
I’ve covered MANY events there over the years, and the place was a dump. But it was OUR (the fans’) dump :(

1. CM Punk Takes Much-Deserved Pipe Bomb, Superstar of the Year Awards on WWE Slammy edition of Raw
Other recipients included: Jim Ross dancing (Tell Me I Did Not Just See That) … Mark Henry, Big Show Break the Ring (Holy **** Moment of the Year) … Kelly Kelly wins the Diva’s title  on Raw (Divalicious Moment) … The Undertaker kicks out of Triple-H’s tombstone piledriver at WrestleMania (OMG Moment) … Zack Ryder (Twitter Trending Star, as voted by the fans) … and The Rock challenges John Cena for WM28 (Game Changing Moment).
NewsWire Flash-Commentary:
Glad to see Punk get this recognition, but a lot of these awards were either meaningless or way too similar.

Check it starting RIGHT NOW out as WrestleDope Radio begins streaming LIVE, each and every Sunday at 4 PM EST!!! We are very proud to have these guys as a syndication partner on thebradyhicks.com!

Here it is: the slippery, slidey, watery sophomore edition of the hottest new show on the coolest old website! Tune in as Kevin McElvaney tells us a little bit more about Barnettgate and exactly why it’s so scary – then, our hosts lay down an exclusive challenge for next week’s show!

Also, as promised, this episode is chock full of pro wrestling and pop culture. The guys discuss this week’s Raw, then answer some “random questions” from the inquisitive mind of Young John. What if the Royal Rumble was for the WWE Title? What are Jack Tunney’s chances at making it into the WWE Hall of Fame? What is Psycho Sid’s favorite art supply, and how does he use it? Find out the answers to all of these questions AND MORE on this week’s BSH!

With DJ under the weather, Brady Hicks and Anthony Sarlo are joined this week IN THE ROOM by an old friend, as the long-elusive Kevin McElvaney visits the show for the first time in months. What has Kevin been up to? And what are his thoughts on CM Punk, the hottest angle wrestling has seen in years, SummerSlam, Kevin Nash, and so much more. Plus, the gang breaks down TNA Impact, taking a special look at the magpie incident from a few weeks back, and Kevin recalls a Legends ppv – historic for all the wrong reasons – he recently watched. A great listen as always!
